(9.0 Out of 10) Brian De Palma may have imitated Hitchcock excessively, but what a fine pasticheur he was indeed. Sisters is a fine reimagining of both the plots of Rear Window and Psycho, with a reworked and experimental final act. De Palma showed in Sisters-- his first fright film of many-- that he had style to spare that combined with an intricate and yet tightly woven plot. The initial birthday murder scene is still as disturbing in its unblinking brutality now than it must have been in 1973, and is also suspenseful and gripping, unlike certain modern horror films that utilize rather lame traps to unsuccessfully generate scares. Finally, in Sisters, De Palma proved that one does not need a completely original plot for a film to still feel fresh. I hope the modern remake craze will watch and learn from this movie.
